The breakout session “NATO Defence and Deterrence – what comes next for the Eastern Flank?” focused on issues broadly related to the Alliance’s Eastern Flank and the most crucial decisions made during the 2018 NATO Brussels Summit. Panelists included: Mr. Ian Brzezinski, Resident Senior Fellow at the Atlantic Council and Deputy Assistant Secretary of Defense for Europe and NATO Policy (2001-2005), Mrs. Claudia Major, Senior Associate at the Stiftung Wissenschaft und Politik, and Mr. Jamie Shea – Senior Fellow at Friends of Europe and Deputy Assistant Secretary General for Emerging Security Challenges at NATO (2012-2018). Opening remarks were delivered by Mr. Vytautas Umbrasas, Vice-Minister of National Defence of Lithuania.
